Contributing to the Profession
A goal that I have is to become a teacher that fully implements a NGSS teaching style throughout the entire year in my classroom. I am going to continue to adapt my lessons to include as many cross cutting concepts as possible as well as high level thinking. I will share my lessons and insights with my colleagues and department leads to see if my teaching style properly aligns with NGSS. It would also be really exciting to go to different workshops and professional developments to see what other teachers are doing to pave the pathway to this new teaching style. I have already been weaving my personality into all of my lessons little by little so that my students can understand me more as a person and so that I can have more fun teaching everyday. My colleagues and coach have already expressed interest in my ability to impliment technology into the classroom and this is something that I will continue to improve on since I have seen many benefits from it since I started teaching at this school. If I were to give advice to a new teacher entering the profession, I would say to happily embrace all successes and failures you encounter, because this is what will help you grow the most. And doing so happily is much easier than to do so stressed.
Developing as a Professional Educator
One of the goals that I set at the beginning of the year was to have a classroom where the students are responsible for their own learning and act upon it. I wanted my students to be self motivated, routine oriented, and able to communicate and work well with others. I believe that I have made large strides into making this goal a reality. Most of my students follow the routines I have set out for them and have found success after following those routines. All of the times I have given students to select their own projects, they seem more invested in completing the assignment and seem to be more impacted when they fall behind. While I knew this would be fairly good for my class, I was surprised to see how well the students received this method of learning.
I am going to continue to further reach this goal, but I have also set another goal for myself. I want to connect with the community and parents more over the next couple years. Since I have started working with my Black Student Union club, I realized how important it is to be doing this. I have seen other teachers in my building establish a good connection with the community and have it positively affect their classroom as well as their extracurricular activities. In order to reach this goal and to better myself as an educator, I will attend workshops and gather ideas from my colleagues to try to implement .
One of the things I have learned in order to maintain a positive attitude altogether is to have fun both inside and outside of school. Even if it means taking a few hours off a week from grading and planning, coming back to school in a good mood I have seen easily rub off on my students. This helps my classroom and students tremendously in a multitude of ways.
My reflective coach has told me that he has seen continued improvement over the past 2 years. I find it really motivating to know that I am at least on the right track to becoming a better teacher. I will try my best to stay on that track and keep moving faster down that track.

Resources Other Teachers Should Use
Quizizz is a great way to review material with your students. You can select from a nearly endless bank of questions to find exactly what you need or create your own. My favorite part about Quizizz is that you can see a lot of data for questions that students missed or got correct. You can even assign Quizizz as homework assignments and analyze the data overnight. Screencastomatic is a program that I use at home to explain lessons to students. Perhaps if some students are a little further ahead, they can get started on the next lesson early by viewing a screencast I have created. With this I can later have the students become the teachers after they watch the video and become experts on the lesson that we are approaching. Click the picture above to view screencastomatic.

Padlet is a wonderful way to get your students collaborating. Try asking a simple question and getting students to group up to write the most comprehensive answer. It is also really great for students to see all of their class work at once in a matter of minutes and to be able to come back to revisit it later on if needed.
